The distinctive smell of sulphur and the greenish-yellow tinted water dominate the bay of Agios Nikolaos, on the northeast of Palea Kameni.

Swimming in the sulphurous waters, which can reach temperatures 5 degrees centigrade above the surrounding sea, or taking a therapeutic bath in the crook of the bay, offer a unique experience – relaxing but also soothing for skin conditions, rheumatism and arthritis.
